What makes a PPF good for Gulf conditions
Brand names matter less than seven plain checks. Ask the shop to show you the film's data sheet and warranty before you pay.
- Material. Quality PPF is thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), which stays flexible in heat. Ask for the exact film name. Cheap PVC-based films can harden and yellow. TRORO films are TPU.
- Thickness. Premium gloss films cluster around 190–200 µm (7.5–8 mil). Thicker film absorbs more impact, but a few microns either way shouldn't decide it.
- Self-healing top coat. Light scratches and swirl marks should fade with heat. Gulf summers do that job for free.
- Surface. Hydrophobic films make water bead and roll off, which carries dust away. Hydrophilic films spread water out and suit owners who want simple care at a lower price.
- Colour stability. Heat and UV can yellow poor film. Some makers publish ΔE, a measure of colour change where lower is better. TRORO's brochure gives ΔE ≤1.2 for AX10 and ≤1.5 for AX7 Pro and AX5.
- Warranty terms. Read what is covered and what voids it, not just the number of years. XPEL's Ultimate Plus warranty, for example, covers yellowing, cracking, blistering and delaminating for 10 years on professionally fitted film.
- The fitter. Clean edges and careful preparation make the result. TRORO GCC supplies film and doesn't fit it, so choose an experienced shop whichever film you pick.
TRORO, XPEL, STEK and 3M compared
These are the leading gloss films from four brands, using each maker's own published figures.
| Film | Thickness | Warranty | Published surface claims |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRORO AX10 | 190 µm (7.5 mil) | 10 years | Hydrophobic, heat self-healing |
| XPEL Ultimate Plus | 193 µm (7.6 mil) on its data sheet, sold as 8 mil | 10 years | Self-healing |
| STEK DYNOshield | 8 mil (about 200 µm) | 10 years, or 12 with STEK's Final Coat | Hydrophobic, self-healing with heat or hot water |
| 3M Series 150 Gloss | 7.5 mil (about 190 µm) | 10 years | See 3M's bulletin |
From each maker's published documents, checked on 5 November 2026. Warranty terms can differ by country, so ask for the terms that apply where you live. Brand names belong to their owners and aren't connected to TRORO.
On paper, these films are closer than their prices suggest. All four are about 190–200 µm thick and all four carry 10 years. That is why the checks above, and the shop doing the work, usually decide the result.
Which film suits which owner
- New or high-value car, long ownership: a 10-year gloss film. In the TRORO range, that's AX10.
- Deep gloss on a shorter horizon: AX7 Pro, with a 7-year warranty.
- Everyday car, value first: AX5 clear gloss, with a 5-year warranty.
- A matte look: AX3 Matte on any colour, or AX4 Matte Black.
- Dark paint: AX6 Black Gloss, at 220 µm.
- A new colour: Colour PPF. See how it compares with a vinyl wrap.
Warning signs when buying PPF in the UAE
- A price far below the market with no film name on the quote. See what PPF costs in the UAE.
- No warranty paper, or a warranty from the shop only and not from the film maker.
- Vague claims such as "nano" or "ceramic PPF" with no data sheet behind them.
- Pressure to skip paint preparation. Film seals in whatever is underneath it.
A note on bias
We sell TRORO film, so read this guide with that in mind. We've kept the comparison to published figures and linked every source so you can check them yourself.
