Windshield protection film: what it does and where it's legal

Short answer

Windshield protection film is a near-invisible layer that helps protect the glass from scratches and cracks and resists UV. Check your country's rules first: Kuwait and Bahrain don't allow film on the front windshield, and the UAE and Oman don't allow it to be tinted. A clear film isn't automatically legal, so ask your traffic authority before you fit one.

What windshield film does

A windshield takes the same stones and sand as your bonnet, and a chip can spread into a crack. Windscreen film adds a thin sacrificial layer over the glass. TRORO's Windshield Film ZM Series is a near-invisible, UV-resistant layer that helps protect the windshield from scratches and cracks.

What it can't do

  • It reduces risk. It can't stop every stone, and it doesn't make glass unbreakable.
  • It doesn't repair glass that's already cracked. Fix that first.
  • It won't legally darken the windshield in most of the GCC. Protection film and tint are different products.

Windshield film rules by country

Saudi ArabiaNo tint beyond the permitted levelTraffic Department, June 2026
Qatar10% darkness on front and rear glassTraffic Department, April 2025

BahrainNo film on the front or rear windowsInterior Ministry decision, 2021
OmanCan't be tintedRoyal Oman Police, July 2026

Last checked on 5 November 2026. This is a guide, not legal advice. None of these reports says whether a fully clear protection film is treated differently from tint in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Oman, so confirm with your traffic authority.

For side and rear windows, see the full GCC tint law guide.

Protection film or heat film?

These do different jobs. Protection film is about the glass. Heat film is about the cabin, and most of the GCC restricts it on the windshield, so you'll usually get more from tinting the side and rear windows within the limit. Read about the best tint for heat.

What about glare?

Anti-glare film on the windshield runs into the same rules as tint. Clean glass inside and out, fresh wipers and a sun visor do a lot. On the side windows, TRORO's GS Premium package is built to cut glare within your country's limit.

Sunroof film

A glass roof is a different story. TRORO Sunroof Film cuts heat build-up and harsh glare under the glass, blocks UV and reduces fading on seats and trim. See it on our car window tinting page.

FAQ

Common questions

Is windshield film legal in the UAE?

The rules don't allow tint on the windshield, apart from a band up to 15 cm from the top. They don't clearly address fully clear protection film, so check with your traffic authority before fitting one.

Is windshield film allowed in Kuwait?

No. Reports on Ministerial Decision No. 1398 of 2025 say the windshield must stay fully transparent, with no tint or protective film.

Does windshield film stop stone chips?

It helps protect the glass from scratches and cracks, but no film can stop every stone.

Will windshield film affect my car's cameras?

Many cars have cameras and sensors behind the windshield. Ask the fitter and the film maker before fitting film over them.
